Hondo Guitars were originally made by a joint venture of the International Music Company and Akai. The idea was thought up by Jerry Freed and Tommy Moore.Reverb is a marketplace bringing together a wide-spanning community to buy, sell, and discuss all things music gear.Hondo was owned and distributed by IMC (International Music Company) in Fort Worth. The guitars were actually made by Samick. IMC distributed Akai and Studio Master, and they owned Hondo, Rhythm Band, Charvel, Ross, Jackson, and Black Diamond. I worked there as Director of Electronics from 1987 to 1988.The Hondo brand was created through a joint-venture between Samick and Texas-based IMC (International Music Corporation). The new company introduced modern American and Japanese production methods to the Korean market, while taking advantage of the low-wage level in Korea to offer inexpensive, entry-level guitars.
